October 31: Jabotinsky speaks to Jewish youth in Tel Aviv. Urges them to lead the nation and participate in Zionist Movement. Provocative speech causes waves in the Yishuv (pre-State community).

October 3: "Jew Speak Hebrew!" Quarrel between Battalion for Defence of Hebrew Language, including Betar members, and Poalei Zion in Poalei Zion Club, Tel Aviv, at party marking Yiddishist Conference twentieth anniversary.

October 9: Brit HaBirionim initiates protest against Dr. Drummond Shiels , Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies. First revolt against the Mandate. Abba Ahimeir arrested with four others.

October 5: Af Al Pi Illegal Immigrant Ship the Draga Aleph reaches Eretz Israel, carrying 170 immigrants. Immigrants transferred to fishing ship the Artemisia and delivered to Tantura shore.

October 31: British Embassy in Rome Blown Up. In response to closure of Eretz Israel gates, Etzel Headquarters in Europe decides on responsive actions against British targets abroad.

October 3: 'Herut', daily journal of Herut Movement, appears, edited by Dr. Yohanan Bader, and appears until 1965, merging with General Zionists' 'HaBoker' to form daily 'HaYom'.

October 6: Egyptian and Syrian armies simultaneously initiate Yom Kippur War against Israel. Israeli government and IDF surprised and unprepared. War concludes victoriously for Israel but with heavy losses. (29)
